Cost of college went up for all students at the University of Massachusetts-Boston

In-state tuition and fees rose 2.5 percent for 2018-19 at the University of Massachusetts-Boston, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Massachusetts residents paid $14,167 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $339 more than the $13,828 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 139.8 percent more than residents this year, or $33,966. Their price tag grew 3 percent from $32,985 in 2017-18.

About 84 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Massachusetts residents. About 7 percent are residents of other states and 9 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 84 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 1,376 students received grants or scholarships totaling $15.4 million and 939 students took out student loans totaling more than $5.5 million.

Including all undergraduates (16,164), 7,732 students used grants or scholarships totaling $71.7 million, and 6,310 students took out $44.1 million in federal student loans.
