Boston College hopes the addition of five players, including two from abroad, will boost the women's soccer team after a disappointing 2020 season.
The Eagles won only a single game and lost seven during a season that ended with 0-3 defeat by Virginia Tech. Among the new recruits for head coach Jason Lowe are a Republic of Ireland international player and one who has represented Canada at the under-17 level.
The other recruits are from Minnesota, Georgia and Massachusetts. Three of the commits are defenders, one is a goalkeeper and the fifth a forward.
"We were fortunate to play our ACC season in 2020 and we are further ahead than other programs in terms of identifying our specific needs for next fall," Lowe said, as reported by Soccer Wire. "Defending was a priority for this class, and we've added players with high level experience for both their clubs and national teams. We'll have a few more additions to announce early next year, but I'm really excited about the talent on our roster."
Future player Éabha O'Mahony was named to the Republic of Ireland women's national team that played Germany earlier this month in a 2022 UEFA Women's European Championship qualifying match. Germany won 3-1.
O'Mahony, who signed a national letter of intent to join the Eagles, has played at a variety levels for the national side. She made her debut for the senior team in a friendly against the US in August last year.
The defender, who plays her club soccer for Cork City, captained the 2018-19 international under-17 squad and was a member of the previous year's team that reached the UEFA finals.
Taliyah Walker, also a defender, is from Canada and a member of the national team's under-17 squad.
Other additions are Andi Barth, a forward from St. Paul, Minnesota, Sarai Costello, a defender from Canton, Massachusetts, and goalkeeper Eva Nahas of Atlanta.
The team's sole win this season was against Syracuse, a 3-1 victory, with goals from Jenna Bike, Laura Gouvin and Emily Knous.
Bike ended the season as BC's top scorer with three goals.
