Scott Giuliano, a 6-foot, 5-inch tight end for Corona del Mar High School in Newport Beach, California, has committed to play football for Harvard University next year, where he is expected to shine as an academically committed student-athlete.

Dan O’Shea, head football coach for Corona del Mar, told the Bean Town Times it has been a pleasure coaching Giuliano since he moved to the area with his family for his junior year.

“Scott is simply one of the finest young men we have had in our football program,” O’Shea said. “He is a natural leader, uniquely gifted athletically and has proven to be one of the very best at his TE position in the country.”

It’s not just his talent on the field that has set Giuliano apart, O’Shea said. While he wants to play football at Harvard, he also wants to excel as a student off the field.

“We believe Scott will thrive at Harvard due to his desire to be the epitome of a student-athlete,” O’Shea said.” He has always put his academics before his athletic goals and we think he has the ability to successfully balance both at such a prestigious university.”

When the coaches asked Giuliano where he would want to go to school even if he wasn’t playing football, there was no hesitation on his part, O’Shea said. That dedication to academics is something they try to instill in all their players.

“The athletic evaluation will come regardless of where a player attends school or camps they participate in, but the key is having the grades to not be disqualified from the very best colleges in the country,” O’Shea said. “Our team GPA has been top 5 in our CIF Section for the last 10 years as we aspire to set the example of how to thrive at Corona Del Mar.”
