Dangarembga is a novelist, playwright, and filmmaker. She is writing a creative nonfiction account of the movement and encounters of the Bantu people, who populated Southern Africa and are the forebears of the people today called the Shona, that also examines more recent migrations and encounters within Southern Africa to illuminate and help remedy the crisis of citizen agency that Shona-speaking Zimbabweans currently experience.
