Hutson Ready for World Junior Tournament with Team USA

Boston University men's ice hockey freshman Lane Hutson and the U.S. National Junior Team will officially begin the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship on Monday when Team USA faces Latvia at 4 p.m. ET.

The annual tournament, which begins Monday and concludes on Jan. 5, 2023, will take place in Moncton, New Brunswick, and Halifax, Nova Scotia. Hutson is the 62nd Terrier to skate for the United States at a World Junior Championship. He is no stranger to representing his country on the international stage, as he was named Best Defenseman at the 2022 Under-18 World Championship, helping Team USA earn a silver medal. 

A native of North Barrington, Illinois, Hutson recorded an assist in each of Team USA's pre-tournament victories. Following Monday's opener, the United States will continue preliminary round play against Slovakia (Dec. 28), Switzerland (Dec, 29) and Finland (Dec. 31). The quarterfinals will take place on Jan. 2, followed by the semifinals on Jan. 4 and the gold medal game on Jan. 5. All of Team USA's games will be televised live on NHL Network.

Hutson has been fantastic in his first 16 games as a Terrier. The two-time Hockey East Defender of the Month is fifth among NCAA defensemen who have played 10 or more games with an average of 1.13 points per game. He is also tied for sixth among all blue liners and first among NCAA rookie defensemen with 18 points on seven goals and 11 assists. Hutson leads all Hockey East defensemen in goals and points and is first among all league rookies in assists and points. He has a pair of three-assist games to his credit and leads BU with three game-winning goals, including two in overtime.
