HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Hill tallied Emerson's first bucket 17 seconds into the first quarter, which was the last basket the Lions would record over the next four minutes. In that span, Rhode Island put together an 8-0 spurt to grab the 8-2 lead.
  • With the help of a triple from Gibbons, Emerson closed the margin down to three at 10-7. Three would be the closest the Lions would come to the Anchormen for the remainder of regulation.
  • Emerson missed their final three shots through the last 2:10 of the first and went into the second quarter down nine at 16-7.
  • 57 seconds into the second saw Emerson's deficit reach double-figures at 14 (21-17) before a triple from junior Ava Salti and pull-up jumper from Pelino inched the Lions back within nine (21-12).
  • After Emerson got back within single digits, the Anchormen rang off an 8-0 run to put the hosts deficit up to 17 (29-12). Bushee and Pelino put up two layups in the final 1:53 as Emerson entered halftime down 13 (29-16).
  • In the third frame, Emerson was outscored, 21-13, and converted 41.7% of shots from the field as Deslauriers paced the pack with seven points. The Lions were narrowly out rebounded, 9-7, but trailed 50-28 at the end of the stanza.
  • Five Lions tallied baskets within the fourth with sophomore Bianca Benson's quarter-leading three points as the Lions were outscored, 17-9. Emerson could not catch Rhode Island and fell by the score of 67-38.
