Men's Basketball to Host American Wednesday Night at The Roof

The Boston University men's basketball team will return home to host American on Wednesday night at Case Gym with tip-off slated for 7 p.m.

Both squads are coming off one-point victories from this past Saturday with the Terriers triumphing at Loyola Maryland (68-67) and the Eagles handing Colgate its first Patriot League loss in 27 games, 61-60.

TERRIER TIDBITS

  • Head coach Joe Jones is just two wins away from 200 at BU after claiming his 10th one-point victory with the Terriers over the weekend.
  • One hundred of those wins have occurred at home with BU owning a 6-4 record this season, highlighted by wins over Northeastern, Dartmouth, Lafayette and the Greyhounds.
  • Averaging a team-high 14.3 ppg and 5.8 rpg with four double-doubles this season, graduate student Walter Whyte is just 19 points away from becoming the eighth Terrier to reach 1,600 points, while classmate jonas Harper (10.1 ppg) is 50 away from becoming the 30th to score 1,100.
  • In the last home game, senior Nevin Zink (5.9 ppg) tallied a career-high 25 points. On Saturday, junior Miles Brewster (4.1 ppg) posted a career-high 13 points to become the ninth Terrier to score in double figures multiple times this season.
  • BU is averaging 67.0 ppg and 41.1 FG% while holding opponents to 68.1 ppg and 43.5 FG%.
SCOUTING AMERICAN

  • The Eagles are 8-5 on the road compared to their 7-3 home mark with 74-70 victory at Georgetown, 69-64 wn at George Washington and 73-69 win at Navy. One of the losses came at Marist (73-69), who was edged by BU, 72-70.
  • After beating BU at home, 76-74, on Jan. 8 to improve to 4-0 in PL play, the Eagles dropped four straight but since then are 3-1 with a loss to Bucknell (78-71) and pair of wins against the two military academies.
  • Matt Rogers leads AU at 12.8 ppg while shooting 47.22 3FG%, and Johnny O'Neil owns 10.9 ppg with a team-high 6.6 rpg and 1.7 bpg.
  • American ranks seventh nationally in shooting 49.5 FG% while averaging 67.0 ppg and is holding opponents to 65.0 ppg (53rd best mark) and 45.2 FG%.
  • The Eagles also rank 51st at 36.7 3FG% and 91st at 7.4 spg.
SERIES HISTORY

  • BU leads the all-time series, 12-9, after the Eagles snapped the Terriers' three-game win streak, 76-74, back on Jan. 8.
  • BU rallied from a 27-12 deficit to grab a 56-55 lead at 8:08 in the second half, but American took advantage of a flagrant foul called during a battle for the rebound with two free throws and layup to pull ahead for good.
  • The Terriers had the ball on the other side of the court down two with three seconds remaining, but their long inbounds pass was intercepted. Whyte tallied a game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds, as the Eagles shot 51.0 percent from the field with four players finishing in double figures.
  • The Terriers are 7-4 at home compared to their 5-5 road mark. They won last season's meeting, 85-67, and overcame an 18-point deficit to claim a 64-60 victory in 2020.
UP NEXT

  • BU will seek its second sweep of the season when it visits Lafayette on Saturday (Feb. 11) at 1 p.m.
  • Facing a 62-52 deficit, the Terriers won the first meeting at home in overtime, 73-69, back in January with Tynen claiming his first-ever double-double at 13 points and 10 rebounds.
