BOSTON – With just two games to go in the regular season, the Boston University women's basketball program puts its 16-game winning streak on the line with a trip to Lehigh on Saturday (Feb. 25). Opening tip is set for 4 p.m.
BU aims to set a program record for conference wins in a season, having already matched the 2008-09 team's 16 league victories. A win would also make the Terriers the third team in Patriot League history to capture 17 conference victories, and first since Army West Point and Bucknell did so in the 2015-16 campaign.
On the other bench, Lehigh seeks to maintain a top-three spot in the league standings. At 11-5 against league foes, the Mountain Hawks are tied with Holy Cross for second place entering the weekend, though Lehigh currently holds the tiebreaker by way of its win over the fourth-place Black Knights earlier this year.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU captured its 16th-consecutive win, snapping Army West Point's four-game win streak with a 77-70 home win on Feb. 22.
- With a 16-point BU lead trimmed to one possession late in the second half, the Terriers scored 24 points in the fourth quarter to secure an undefeated league home slate.
- Junior Caitlin Weimar unloaded a career-high 32 points on 12-of-17 shooting, snagging seven rebounds and going 8-for-8 from the foul line.
- Senior Maren Durant collected 14 points, seven boards, and two blocks.
- Classmate Maggie Pina went 5-for-8 from the field for 11 points.
- Weimar's effort was the first 32-point and 12-basket performance by a Terrier since Alex Young '12 dropped 37 points via 14 field goals on Mar. 6, 2011.
- Weimar is now 10th in Division I with a .604 field goal percentage, which is just six-thousandths from the single-season program record, a .610 clip from Lynne Ranando '89 in the 1986-87 campaign.
- Senior Sydney Johnson is set to appear in her 100th-career game on Saturday. She enters the matchup one assist away from 10th place in the BU record books, nine points from 13th place, and 12 buckets from 10th place.
- Durant is 13 rebounds shy of fifth place in the Terriers annals, and six field goals from 300.
- In her last six games, dating back to Feb. 4, Pina is averaging 12 points per game.
- Set to appear in her 21st game this season, sophomore Alex Giannaros needs four three-pointers to average two makes from beyond the arc on the year. That would make her eligible for the NCAA's three-point percentage ranks, where her .551 clip would rank first upon meeting that threshold.
- BU is 11-0 in 2022-23 with a starting lineup of Johnson, Giannaros, Pina, Durant, and Weimar.
- With a win, BU would secure its 10th road win on the year. The Terriers have not reached double digits in road victories since 2012-13.
- A victory would also guarantee an undefeated February for the Terriers. That has happened only once in program history, in 2009.
SCOUTING LEHIGH
- The Mountain Hawks enter Saturday's contest on a four-game winning streak, most recently dispatching Bucknell, 84-72.
- Lehigh's 11 Patriot League wins match Holy Cross for the second-most this year.
- This season, the Mountain Hawks lead the nation with an .804 free throw percentage, and are fourth with 9.5 three-pointers per game.
- Lehigh has gone 7-1 at home against league foes this year, and is 9-4 overall at Stabler Arena.
- Frannie Hottinger, who recently set the single-season program record for points scored, continues to lead the league with 20.7 points per game, which is 15th in Division I.
- Mackenzie Kramer is second in the league with 17.4 points per contest, and 11th in the country with a .440 three-point percentage.
SERIES HISTORY
- Saturday marks the 22nd all-time meeting between BU and Lehigh in a series that began in 1989.
- The Mountain Hawks maintain an 11-10 advantage in the rivalry.
- Each team has won four games in the last eight bouts.
- The Terriers are 4-6 all-time on the road at Lehigh. Their last road win came on Feb. 9, 2019.
- BU won the first meeting this season between the teams, 82-69, on Jan. 28.
- The Terriers made 60 percent of their shots in the final three quarters. Five Terriers scored in double figures, led by 22 points from Johnson.
