Suffolk County: Hispanic students were the most represented ethnicity in 2021-22 school year

In the 2021-22 school year, Hispanic students were the most represented ethnicity in Suffolk County, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 36,599 Hispanic students enrolled, making up 47.7% of the student body in Suffolk County.

The proportion of Hispanic students enrolled in the county fell from the year before.

Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander was the least represented ethnicity among Suffolk County students.

The number of students attending the County’s schools in the 2021-22 school year fell to 76,728.

Students in Massachusetts are predominantly white, according to state data from 2020, with only 35% of the students considered people of color.

Across the state, Hispanic and Latino students suffered the highest high school dropout rates.

Underrepresentation is also found among educators in Massachusetts. The Rennie Center reported that only 9% of teachers are people of color.
