Chelsea Public Schools District’s student-to-teacher ratio fell by 10.6% in 2021-22 school year

The ratio of students to teachers in Chelsea Public Schools District fell by 10.6% in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 6,074 students being taught by 477 teachers in Chelsea Public Schools District, which covers schools within Suffolk County and has a main office in Chelsea. That's an average of 12.7 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

In the previous year, Chelsea Public Schools District had 5,936 students and 417.2 teachers on staff.

Despite the shortage, under-representation of ethnicities among teachers was found to be a concern. The Rennie Center reported that only nine percent of teachers are people of color.

Massachusetts has roughly one teacher for every 13 students, which is better than the national average of one teacher for every 16 students.
