A Brockton man pleaded guilty in federal court in Boston to firearm, cocaine, fentanyl, and conspiracy offenses.

Antonio Denziah Fernandes, 23, admitted to two counts of illegally receiving a firearm while under indictment, two counts of distributing and possessing with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl, one count of possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl and cocaine, and one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl. U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani scheduled sentencing for Dec. 10, 2024. In September 2023, Fernandes was indicted by a federal grand jury; additional charges were brought on Sept. 11, 2024.

In late 2021, law enforcement discovered that Fernandes was trafficking firearms and narcotics in the Brockton area. In January 2022, while under state indictment for trafficking over ten grams of fentanyl, Fernandes received and sold a Glock Model 48 pistol for $1,700 in Taunton. In subsequent transactions in January and February 2022 near his Brockton residence, he distributed approximately fifty grams of fentanyl each time.

Fernandes and a co-conspirator stored narcotics in an abandoned van parked outside his residence and distributed them using another vehicle. He was arrested as a passenger in this latter vehicle with a loaded firearm found wedged against his seat and had 2.8 grams of fentanyl on him.

A search of the abandoned vehicle revealed large quantities of drugs: including 174.7 grams of fentanyl, 51.5 grams of cocaine, Percocet pills weighing eighteen grams total, eight grams of mushrooms, twenty-seven rounds of ammunition alongside various drug packaging materials such as plastic baggies.

The charge for illegally receiving a firearm while under indictment can result in up to five years imprisonment with three years supervised release plus fines up to $250K. Charges related to distributing or possessing with intent to distribute forty-plus grams each carry sentences ranging from five years minimum up until forty years maximum imprisonment plus four-year minimums potentially extending lifelong supervised release along fines maxing out at $5 million per offense adjudicated per federal sentencing guidelines/statutes governing criminal case outcomes within district courts presiding federally over such matters.
