A Bronx resident has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for distributing fentanyl. Jose Luis Lopez Genao, 32, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni and will also face four years of supervised release. In June 2024, Genao admitted guilt to charges of distribution and possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl.
The investigation revealed that around June 2021, Genao and others were involved in receiving large shipments of fentanyl from outside the United States for distribution across Springfield and New England. On December 8, 2022, he traveled from New York to Worcester to deliver approximately one kilogram of fentanyl but was arrested after delivering it to a government witness.
The case announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy and Jodi Cohen, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Boston Division. The investigation received support from Homeland Security Investigations in New England; Massachusetts State Police; police departments in Chicopee, West Springfield, and Easthampton; as well as sheriff’s offices in Berkshire, Hampden, and Franklin Counties. Assistant U.S. Attorney Neil L. Desroches handled the prosecution.
This case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) Strike Force Initiative aimed at disrupting major drug traffickers through multi-agency collaboration.
