    A Lowell man, Jorge Manuel "Manny" Huertas, 46, has been apprehended in connection with a conspiracy involving the distribution and possession of fentanyl and methamphetamine. Huertas faces charges for conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute over 40 grams of fentanyl and more than 50 grams of methamphetamine. His initial court appearance is scheduled for today in Boston's federal court.

    A Dominican man has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Boston for illegally reentering the United States after deportation. Jose De La Rosa Rosario, 50, faces one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien.

  • Stoughton man pleads guilty to federal sex trafficking charges

    A Stoughton man, Marvin Pompilus, has pleaded guilty in federal court in Boston to charges related to sex trafficking multiple adult women. The 39-year-old admitted to four counts of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion and one count of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and cocaine. His sentencing is scheduled for January 23, 2025.

  • Former Tufts doctor convicted of attempted child sex trafficking

    A former anesthesiologist at Tufts Medical Center has been convicted by a federal jury of attempted sex trafficking of a child. Sadeq Ali Quraishi, 47, was found guilty of one count of attempted sex trafficking of a child. U.S. District Court Judge Angel Kelley has scheduled sentencing for January 28, 2024. Quraishi was indicted by a federal grand jury in November 2022.

  • Boston woman sentenced for defrauding federal credit union using inmate identities

    A former loan officer from Boston has been sentenced for her role in a scheme to defraud a federal credit union. Nadaje Hendrix, aged 27 and residing in Brighton, was sentenced on October 4, 2024, by U.S. District Judge Julia E. Kobick to eight months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. Additionally, Hendrix is required to pay restitution amounting to $134,000.

  • Mother-son duo sentenced for role in drug trafficking ring

    A mother and son from Massachusetts have been sentenced in federal court for their roles in a drug trafficking organization that distributed counterfeit prescription pills containing fentanyl and methamphetamine. Javier Bello, also known as "Javi," received a 15-year prison sentence followed by five years of supervised release. His mother, Chevon Dorce, was sentenced to nearly two years in prison with an additional three years of supervised release.

  • Boston man pleads guilty to racketeering with violent gang

    A Boston man has admitted guilt in a case involving the Cameron Street gang, a violent group operating primarily in Dorchester. Charod Taylor, also known as "Pachino," aged 35, pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to participate in a racketeering enterprise and conspiracy to distribute cocaine. U.S. Senior District Court Judge William G. Young has scheduled his sentencing for January 15, 2025.

  • North Andover man charged with illegal possession of weapons as convicted felon

    A North Andover man has been charged with allegedly possessing over 30 firearms and explosives despite being a convicted felon. Daniel Medina, aged 64, faces charges of unlawful possession of a machine gun, unlawful possession of explosives, and being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition. He is currently held on related state charges and will appear in federal court in Boston at a later date.

  • Bronx man sentenced for fentanyl distribution in Massachusetts

    A Bronx resident has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for distributing fentanyl. Jose Luis Lopez Genao, 32, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni and will also face four years of supervised release. In June 2024, Genao admitted guilt to charges of distribution and possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl.

  • Springfield man sentenced for illegal firearm possession

    A Springfield man has been sentenced to more than three years in prison for possessing a firearm and ammunition unlawfully. Robbie Delgado, 25, received a sentence of 40 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release from U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni.

  • Bournewood settles for up to $6.5M over kickback allegations

    First Psychiatric Planners, Inc., operating as Bournewood Health Systems and Bournewood Hospital, has agreed to pay between $5.5 million and $6.5 million to settle allegations of violating the federal and Massachusetts False Claims Acts. According to court documents, Bournewood provided free sober housing to substance use recovery patients enrolled in Medicare and Medicaid to induce their participation in Bournewood’s Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), contravening the federal and Massachusetts Anti-Kickback Statutes.

  • Three alleged MS-13 members charged with racketeering-related murders

    Three alleged members of the MS-13 gang have been charged in connection with two separate murders in Massachusetts, one occurring in December 2010 and another in July 2020. William Pineda Portillo, also known as "Humilde," 31, of Everett, and Jose Vasquez, also known as "Cholo" or "Little Crazy," 31, of Somerville, face charges for conspiracy to conduct racketeering affairs through a pattern of racketeering activity and violent crime in aid of racketeering. Franklin Antonio Amaya Paredes, also known as "Tony," 27, of New Bedford, is charged separately with similar offenses.

  • Springfield woman pleads guilty in nationwide drug trafficking conspiracy

    A Springfield woman has pleaded guilty in federal court in Boston to charges related to a conspiracy to distribute controlled substances. Denise Guyette, 31, was charged with conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl and 500 grams or more of a mixture containing methamphetamine.
